Berbay Publishing is the new kid on the block. Dedicated to translating and adapting illustrated children’s books into English, their first two publications from the French are quirky and whimsical, and will appeal to the younger reader… and their parents too! Both are quality hardbacks for $29.95.

written by Sylvie Chause
Illustrated by Anne Letuffe

Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Princess and the Pea. The story centres on Princess Antoinette’s quest to marry. Her journey for romance starts in the centre of France where she meets several suitors. However, each potential husband must pass her mother’s “pea test”, whereby Queen Louise hides a pea under their mattress in an attempt to identify the true Prince of Peas. Needless to say, there is a suitably squishy and romantic ending.

Anne Letuffe’s lush illustrations are dotted with peas, drawings, collages, photos and maps.

written by Sylvie Chause
Illustrated by Anne Letuffe

In this version of the classic fairy tale, The 3 Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, sisters Lucette, Paulette and Marie-Antoinette are three strong-spirited little piglets. One night their culottes are stolen so they go in search of the thief. There is a wolf involved, of course, but you might find the end quite surprising…
